]]>In this guide, we'll delve into the world of dog shampoos, exploring the best dog shampoo Australia and what you should looking at and avoiding while search for the best dog shampoo Australia.
Based on the dog's skin if it is sensitive skin or simply want the best at The Dogs Stuff, you will find all the grooming products essential to keep your dog clean and shiny!
Natural dog shampoo is a top choice for pet owners who want to avoid harsh chemicals that can disrupt a dog's skin and coat. These shampoos often contain natural oils and are specially formulated to promote skin health.
If your dog is suffering from skin problems like dermatitis or skin infections, a medicated dog shampoo may be your best bet. These shampoos are often recommended by veterinarians and can help soothe itching and control skin conditions.
Dog dry shampoo is a convenient option for a quick refresh between baths. It's a dry option that can be used in conjunction with traditional shampoos to keep your dog's coat clean and fresh without the need for water.
One of the most prevalent complaints dogs have is itchy skin and skin irritation, thus soothing shampoos are highly widespread. Shampoos with soothing ingredients like aloe and oatmeal benefit your dog by eliminating dead skin and fur. Omega-3 fatty acids may also be present for improved skin conditioning.
Dogs might have a slight odour, especially if they roll in something unintentionally. The best dog shampoo for smelly dogs is a deodorising shampoo since it works to get rid of any unpleasant scents like fox faeces or other pet peeves.
One of the most common issues dog owners face is dry and itchy skin. This condition can be uncomfortable for your dog and disruptive to their daily life. The right grooming products can make all the difference.
Look for shampoos containing gentle formula like oatmeal, which is known for its soothing properties. Oatmeal-based shampoos can help relieve the itchiness and provide relief for your dog. Our in store dog shampoo brands with a specific focus on sensitive skin are a great choice.
When purchasing a dog shampoo, it's important to consider several factors. Here are some tips to help you make the best choice for your furry friend:
If your dog has persistent skin issues, consult with a veterinarian before purchasing a shampoo. They can recommend the best products for your dog's specific condition.
Pay attention to the ingredients listed on the bottle. Look for shampoos that contain natural ingredients and are free from fragrances and potentially harmful chemicals.
Different dogs have different coat types. Some shampoos are specially formulated for long-haired breeds, while others are ideal for dogs with shorter hair. Choose a shampoo that suits your dog's specific coat type.
Dog shampoos come in a wide price range. Consider your budget, but also keep in mind that a high-quality shampoo can make a significant difference in your dog's skin and coat health.
Of course, you will still have a number of options even after you determine that your dog requires a deodorising, conditioning shampoo or coat sprays. Among the components to seek out are:
Oatmeal
Aloe Vera
Omega 3 and 6
Tea Tree Oils
Your dog could be harmed by harsh chemicals, allergies, and "artificial colouring" applied solely for aesthetic purposes. If handled improperly, even natural compounds might result in issues!
We would definitely keep an eye out for the preservative parabens. Up until recently, they were widely used in human shampoos despite mounting evidence that they could disrupt hormones and increase the risk of cancer.
Sodium lauryl sulphate, aka SLS is another chemical to watch out for because it's regarded to be too abrasive for dogs' skin, especially if you have a breed with sensitive skin.
Lastly, you need to pay particular attention to the concentration of specific essential oils, such Tea Tree. Pick a dog shampoo that has 0.1% to 1% Tea Tree Oil in it.
Don't let dogs lick any shampoo off of themselves.
A very simple answer is: no—never! This is so that all human shampoos can account for the natural acidity of human skin, which has an acidic pH of 5.5 to 6.5. Dog skin has a mildly alkaline pH of 7.5 to 8 or perhaps a little bit higher in certain areas.
If you wash your dog with a human shampoo, you can start to change the pH of their skin, leaving them more prone to infection, peeling, and dryness.
Due to some components, human shampoo may also be more difficult to remove off your dog's coat after washing. Furthermore, any shampoo residue that isn't removed by washing it out can irritate your dog's skin.
While some dogs may only require bathing every few months, others can require bathing twice a week or more. However, the appropriate response to every circumstance cannot be given in a straightforward manner. But merely being aware of the above issues is an ideal place to start. A dog should be bathed if it smells a little whiffy, as determined by one's nose. A few simple but well made shampoos may be all that is required to treat a dog with dandruff.
it's not advisable to use human shampoo on dogs. The pH balance of a dog's skin is different from that of humans, and human shampoo can disrupt this balance, potentially causing skin problems and irritations.
For sensitive skin, consider natural and gentle formulas. Oatmeal-based shampoos can be highly effective for dry and itchy skin. Medicated shampoos are best for addressing skin conditions. Consult with a veterinarian for personalized recommendations.
A typical alternative to dog shampoo is dish soap. Although it can be harsh on your dog's skin, it can be used in a pinch. For any remaining odours on your dog, white vinegar works well. Apply the solution to your dog's coat in an equal parts water and vinegar ratio, then thoroughly rinse.
The frequency of bathing your dog depends on factors such as their breed, lifestyle, and skin condition. In general, most dogs benefit from a bath every 4-6 weeks. Over-bathing can strip the skin of natural oils, so avoid excessive bathing.
Some popular and highly rated dog shampoo brands in Australia include Furry Friend, Oatmeal Bliss, and GentleTouch. The best choice will depend on your dog's individual requirements.

Here are some examples of the best dog training equipment you can select from our store:
Dog training collars come in various styles, from traditional choke chains to modern electronic collars. The best part is that you can choose one that suits your dog's needs and your training style. Electronic collars, for instance, allow you to issue commands remotely and can be a functional and effective tool for off-leash training.
Harnesses are essential pieces of dog equipment Australia that make it easier to control your dog without causing discomfort. They come in a range of styles, including front-clip harnesses that discourage pulling and back-clip harnesses for more comfortable walks. Choosing the right harness can significantly improve your dog's walking experience.
When it comes to dog training, rewards matter. Treats are an invaluable tool for positive reinforcement. A stock of delicious, bite-sized treats can motivate your dog to perform desired actions and help your pet associate training with a sense of reward and satisfaction.
A simple but effective tool, the clicker is used to mark and reinforce desirable behaviours during training sessions. The sound of a click is a clear signal to your dog that they've done something right, making it an excellent aid for training.
Long leashes are great dog training equipment in open spaces and for teaching commands like recall. They give your dog the freedom to roam while still maintaining control, which is especially helpful during the early stages of training.
Dog owners can take their dogs to a protected location where they can run about and interact with other dogs. This is crucial in apartment buildings and condos where dogs are frequently caged up and have little room to roam.
Dogs can gain a variety of advantages as well from training using dog training products, including:
Burn off excess mental and physical energy
Possibilities to increase confidence
Improve your self-control.
Improve your ability to block out disturbances
Bolstering innate abilities
Interact with other dogs
It's crucial to wait until your puppy has given the all-clear before using agility obstacles or courses. If a young puppy under the age of one or two years tries to jump or move in specific ways while they are still growing, they risk badly damaging their bones.
Agility training using dog training equipment must wait till your dog is fully developed, but proactive dog behaviour training from a young age is still crucial if you want to set your dog's conduct up for success. It will always be helpful to teach your dog fundamental commands like "sit," "lie down," and "stay," and it will be beneficial for agility best functions, whether you intend to do it for fun or to compete.
Remember that while the right dog training equipment can make a significant difference, it's essential to seek professional advice if you're facing specific training challenges with your dog. A qualified dog trainer can provide guidance for the perfect dog equipment Australia and create a customized training plan for your furry friend.
Some of the best dog training products in Australia include training collars, harnesses, training treats, clickers, and long leashes. These items can help you achieve your training goals effectively.
Yes, some dog toys, like puzzle toys or treat-dispensing toys, can be used for training. They can help keep your dog mentally stimulated and reinforce good behavior through play and reward.
On average, basic group classes may cost around $100 to $200 for several sessions, while private training sessions can range from $50 to $150 per hour.
Dog training is not heavily regulated in Australia. However, there are professional organizations like the Australian Association of Professional Dog Trainers (AAPDT) and the National Dog Trainers Federation (NDTF) that set standards and offer certifications for dog trainers.
ABC in dog training stands for "Applied Behavior Analysis." Applied Behavior Analysis is a scientific approach to understanding and modifying behavior, which is often used in dog training to analyze and address various behavioral issues.
The Certificate III in Dog Behaviour and Training and the Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services are the two most popular approved programmes in Australia. Australia's dog training sector is represented by and educated by the National Dog Trainers Federation (NDTF), a government-accredited institution.
]]>If you're searching for an effective solution to how pets beat the heat, look no further than the wonders of a pet cooling mat.
Just as we humans seek a refreshing drink or shade to cool off in hot weather, our pets deserve their own version of relief.
Enter the dog cooling mat and snuffle mat - a simple yet ingenious creation designed to help regulate your pet's body temperature. These mats are often made using materials that absorb and dissipate heat, offering your furry friend a comfortable surface.
Pet cooling mat is more than just a way to keep your pet cool. They can actually help reduce stress and anxiety in your pet, enhancing their overall well-being.
Think about it: when your dog is panting excessively due to heat, their body is under stress. Providing them with a cooling mat can help your dog lower their body temperature, rest and ease their panting, and create a sense of security and calm.
When you start your search for a pet cooling mat during the summer season, you'll be pleasantly overwhelmed by the variety of options available. From self-cooling gel paw pads to water-activated mats, there's an array of options to suit your pet's preferences and needs that keep the dog cool.
Some mats are designed to be placed in the freezer for an extra refreshing touch, while others use pressure-activated technology to start cooling as soon as your pet lays down.
If you're wondering where to get your paws on these cooling marvels, you're in luck. Major online retailers like Amazon offer a wide selection of pet cooling mats from various brands. One popular option is the "Arf Pets Self-Cooling Mat," which boasts a non-toxic gel interior and requires no electricity or freezing.
Its pressure-activated technology offers instant relief for your hot dog. Other brands, like Chillz and The Green Pet Shop, also offer cooling mat options.
When choosing a dog cooling mat though, be sure to consider the size that best suits your pet. Mats come in various dimensions to accommodate different breeds and sizes. Whether you have a small Chihuahua or a large Golden Retriever, there's a dog cooling mat size that will provide the ultimate chill.
Summer adventures can be a blast, but they can also leave your pet feeling hot and unbearable, especially if you're on the road. For car rides and outdoor escapades, consider a portable pet cooling mat. These mats can be easily rolled up or folded, making them convenient to store and carry in your car, store, or even in your pet's crate.
While the initial price of a pet cooling mat might raise an eyebrow, the benefits it offers are truly priceless.
A cooler and more comfortable pet in bed means less stress, better rest, and improved overall health. When you think about it, a pet cooling mat is a small price to pay for your furry friend's well-being.
1- Temperature: be conscious of the temperature outside and avoid exercising or playing with your pet during the hottest parts of the day. Ensure plenty of shade and fresh water is available at all times.
2- Coat and body condition: your dog may have a thick or long coat, which is like wearing a woolly jumper. This can affect your dog's ability to cool down, so consider a trip to the groomer. Be mindful that overweight pets find it more difficult to cool down and are more vulnerable to heat stroke.
3- Walking and car safety: never walk your dog on hot paths or roads, this can result in severe burns on their paw pads.
Pet cooling mats typically work through a combination of pressure activation and heat-absorbing materials. The pressure of your pet's body on the mat triggers the cooling mechanism, which either involves a gel that absorbs heat or a water-activated technology that reacts to your pet's body heat.
It depends on the brand and type of cooling mat you have. Some cooling mats, particularly gel-filled ones, may need to be refrigerated or frozen before use to provide an extra cool touch. However, water-activated mats typically do not require freezing; they start cooling as soon as your pet lies down on them.
Cleaning procedures may vary depending on the brand and material of the cooling mat. In general, you can wipe down the mat with a damp cloth and mild soap to remove dirt and debris. It's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning to ensure the mat's effectiveness and longevity.

Dry dog food, also known as kibble, plays a vital role in the pet food industry by providing a balanced and nutritious diet for dogs. It offers several benefits that contribute to their overall health and well-being. Let's delve deeper into why dry dog food is an essential part of a canine's diet.
1. Nutritional Value and Balance:
Dry dog food is formulated to meet the nutritional needs of dogs. Reputable dog food brands ensure that their products contain a balanced blend of protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals. These nutrients are essential for maintaining healthy muscles, bones, organs, and a strong immune system. By feeding your dog high-quality dry dog food, you can be confident that they are receiving the necessary nutrients for optimal health.
2. Digestive Health:
Many dry dog foods are designed to promote healthy digestion. They often include ingredients such as fiber, prebiotics, and probiotics that support a healthy gut and aid in proper digestion and nutrient absorption. This can be especially beneficial for a dog with a sensitive stomach or those prone to digestive issues. Dry dog food's low moisture content also helps in maintaining firmer stools, making it easier for owners to clean up after their pets.
3. Dental Care:
Chewing on dry dog food helps promote dental health by reducing the buildup of plaque and tartar. The abrasive texture of kibble helps remove food particles and stimulate saliva production, which naturally cleanses the teeth and gums. Additionally, some dry dog foods are specially formulated to support dental hygiene for small dogs, with ingredients that help reduce plaque formation and freshen breath.
4. Convenience and Versatility:
Pet dry food manufacturers offer convenience for both pet owners and their furry companions. It can be easily stored, requires no refrigeration, and has a longer shelf life compared to wet dog food. This makes it an ideal choice for many dog owners or those who prefer to buy pet food in bulk. Dry food can also be used as training treats or interactive toys, providing mental stimulation and enrichment for dogs.
5. Weight Management: Obesity is a significant concern for dogs using commercial pet food, as it can lead to various health issues such as joint problems, diabetes, and heart disease. Dry dog food allows for portion control, as it can be easily measured and monitored. This makes it easier to manage your dog's weight and ensure they receive an appropriate amount of food. Some dry dog foods also offer weight management formulas specifically designed to help dogs maintain a healthy weight.
6. Cost-Effective Option:
Dry dog food tends to be more cost-effective compared to wet dog food or other raw food only diets. Buying dry dog food in larger quantities or taking advantage of bulk purchasing options can further reduce costs. This makes it a budget-friendly choice for dog owners, allowing them to provide their pets with quality nutrition without breaking the bank.
When analyzing the nutritional value of dog foods, several key factors are considered:
Protein Content:
Dogs are primarily carnivorous, so high-quality protein sources are essential. The best dog foods contain animal-based proteins as the main ingredient, such as chicken, beef, lamb, or fish. The protein content should be adequate to support muscle development and overall health.
Carbohydrate Sources:
Carbohydrates provide energy and fiber in a dog's diet. The best dog foods often include wholesome carbohydrates like whole grains (such as brown rice or oats) or alternative sources like sweet potatoes. The carbohydrate content of grain free foods should be balanced to provide energy without excessive starches or sugars.
Fats and Essential Fatty Acids:
Healthy dog nutrition contains fats that are vital for a dog's skin, coat health, and overall well-being. The best dog foods contain quality fat sources, such as chicken fat or fish meal such as menhaden fish meal, which provide essential fatty acids like Omega-3 and Omega-6. These fats support healthy skin, coat, brain function, and a strong immune system.
Vitamins and Minerals:
Essential vitamins and minerals are necessary for a dog's overall health. The best dog foods include a balanced blend of vitamins (such as A, D, E, and B vitamins) and minerals (such as calcium, phosphorus, and zinc) to support various bodily functions and promote optimal health.
Special Dietary Considerations:
Some dogs may have specific dietary needs or sensitivities. The best dog foods often cater to these requirements. For example, they may offer grain-free diet options for dogs with grain sensitivities,
Both dry and wet dog food options have their advantages. Dry dog food offers convenience, dental health benefits, and is often more cost-effective. Wet dog food, on the other hand, has higher moisture content and can be beneficial for dogs with hydration issues or those who prefer softer textures. The best choice depends on your dog's specific needs and preferences.
To determine the best dry dog food for your dog, consider factors such as their age, breed, size, specific dietary needs, and any health conditions they may have. Look for reputable brands that offer formulas tailored to your dog's life stage and requirements. Consulting with your veterinarian can also provide valuable guidance based on your dog's individual needs.
From essential dietary considerations to stylish collars and fun jumpers, we have everything pet owners need to keep their pooch happy, healthy, and looking fabulous.
Wet dog food is a popular food choice among pet owners in Australia due to its high moisture content and delicious taste.
This type brand of dog food is especially beneficial for puppies, senior dogs, or dogs with dental issues who may struggle to eat dry food. It provides hydration and contains essential nutrients in a palatable form that your dog love.
Feeding your dog a balanced and nutritious diet is vital for their overall well-being. Just like humans, dogs have specific dietary requirements that vary based on their life stages. From puppies to adult dogs and senior dogs and mutts, each stage necessitates essential nutrients to maintain optimal health.

]]>Do you remember when you were a kid, you used to lie on your tiles (inside your home) to keep cool in the summer months - nobody? Just me? Ok. Well dogs do a similar thing. A Dog Cooling Mat provides the same comfortability that tiles do as they keep your dog fresh and cool. Interestingly, although cooling mats were all made with the same intent - to keep your dog cool, there are different types.
So I know what you’re thinking. “Tony what is this a Dog Cool Mat made out of? What is inside it?” Well I’ll tell you. This really varies on the type of cooling mat that you purchase. Some are just as simple as filling the inside with tap water before every use and others have special chemicals (like those ice packs that they used to give you at school). Although the chemical ones stay cooler for longer, if the mat does break, your dog could ingest these toxic chemicals, resulting in injury or death. Here are some more differences:
Water Filled Mats
This is the safest option when buying a dog cooling mat. All you need to do is fill these bad boys up with cold tap water. They are also very affordable and will stay cold for up to 7 hours. They can make a mess if your dog is a chewer
Ice Pack Cooling Pads
There are cooling pads on the market that actually come with ice packs that you might need to put in the freezer overnight before inserting and giving to your dog. Although this may seem like the coolest option (see what I did there?), some dogs actually find them uncomfortable.
Pressure Activated Cooling Pads or Gel Cooling Pads
These cooling mats don’t need electricity or water but rather absorb the dog’s temperature and cools it down. It is activated when it feels the weight of your dog and will recharge itself after a period of non use - bet your Tesla can’t do that Elon Musk!. You also want to look for a cooling pad that doesn’t use toxic gel. You’re able to freeze or refrigerate them. If you do decide to purchase the pressure activated cooling pads, don’t use them in the sun as this will destroy them.
Phase Changing Cooling Pads For Dogs
Spoiler Alert: These stay coolest for longest. This type of cooling mat is filled with a unique chemical substance and works by going from a solid state to a liquid state, absorbing heat throughout the process (Year 10 Science Anyone?)
So you’ve bought the cooling mat but now need to figure out how to use it?. Well unlike that table you bought from Ikea that’s now sitting in your garage unassembled because you gave up, it is really easy to use. All your dog needs to do is lie on it. Now because this is a new object, dogs may be a little hesitant and not know what to do with this cooling mat, its would be best to try and make the experience a little more interesting and interactive. I suggest placing toys or treat on the mat and getting your dog to pick them up. You can even praise your dog and give them a treat every time they lie down on the mat. You’ll find that once your dog lies on the mat a couple of times, he or she will start doing it any time they feel hot or uncomfortable.
This isn’t a necessary procedure however, if you’d like to make the mat colder quicker then yes you absolutely may.
Dog Cooling Mats are a safe, effective and efficient way to keep your furbaby cool on those hot summer days. In most situations, cooling mats are safe however due to our fur friend’s need to chew everything, everything can be dangerous. As noted, some of the cooling mats mentioned do have hazardous gels inside. It is best to monitor your dog's behaviour on and around the mat before leaving him or her alone. You can also consult your vet or a dog trainer.
If the mat’s seals aren’t broken or damaged so that the liquid inside can’t come out, no they are not toxic. However, if the mat is chewed or damaged by your dog this may lead to your dog ingesting the chemicals inside and potentially dieing.
Absolutely! I would even recommend getting one for yourself and lying on it on hot days. You can even buy two, one for you and one for your dog and set them up next to each other so you both can chill (literally). When first getting your dog a cooling mat, you can lie down on it first to show him or her that it is perfectly safe.
Who else hates humid nights? The Dog Cooling mat is a great way of keeping your dog cool as a cucumber at night. But. This is only if you trust them with the mat. If your dog has a habit of chewing items maybe it's best you lay off the mat for a while. Try other methods like a wet blanket or towel at night. You can even freeze water bottles that are filled with water and wrap them in a towel to put next to your dog. Also remember to keep your dog’s water bowl filled.
The white noise provided from the fan may relax your dog as it may block out outside noises like cars passing or people talking, but it isn’t effective. Remember, fans don’t cool air they work through convection and sweat evaporation. This is great for us but bad for your dogs as, as noted, dog’s don’t sweat.
This ultimately depends on how receptive your dog is of the mat. As noted, you can place treats and toys on the mat but it really comes down to your dog. I personally would invest in one. Think of it this way, if worse comes to worse you can use it for yourself. If you don’t want to use it, you can always donate it to the local pet shelter.
]]>Different dogs display different symptoms so it's important to look for clues. Look for signs such as:
Now I know what you’re thinking, “Tony, why should I buy my dog a coat if it really isn’t needed?”. This answer may look different according to different people. Some people’s decision to buy their dog a coat is purely out of emotion. They feel bad that they’re all rugged up yet their dog is walking beside them with no coat. Although your dog most of the time will be ok this is very emotionally distressing for some people. Dog owners may also want to take a safer than sorry approach as their dogs may need time to use the bathroom or even release excess energy, compelling them to spend large amounts of time outdoors. Although I was joking before, fashion is another reason why people buy coats for their dogs. In fact, according to the American Pet Products Association, $16.01 billion was spent on pet clothing. This has increased 7% from the following year. There has also been a change in pet ownership styles as the younger generations are driving a shift towards a more ‘humanistic approach’ to pet ownership. This has forced brands to offer a larger variety of clothing options for dogs. Although terms like ‘I’m a dog dad’ or ‘I’m a dog mum’ seem funny and cute, they really articulate and represent the changing attitudes towards our pets.
Although seeming like a humorous and even impulsive decision to make, it’s important to actually consider several factors when choosing to buy or put a winter coat on your dog. These factors include
Wind Chill
The lower the wind chill the more likely your dog will need a dog coat.
If Your Dog May Get Wet
If it is likely that your dog will go swimming, this coat might soak up water, getting heavier, making it harder for your dog to swim. If your dog and you are running in the rain or may even go swimming it is best if you buy a waterproof coat
How Sunny It Is
The more sun, the more likely it is for your dog to get over heated. Keep an eye on your dog for signs such as panting.
Dog’s Age and Health Status
Elderly, very young and sick dogs struggle keeping warm even in milder temperatures. So you’ll find that if your dog is one of these three, it may be a good idea to invest in a dog coat.
Acclimation To Cold Temperatures
Your dog’s age and health status may impact its acclimation to cold temperatures.
Although we’ve established that older, very young or sick dogs may require coats, size and dog breed also play a large role when deciding too. Smaller dogs have relatively larger surface area of which they can lose more heat. Due to this, smaller dogs may actually need a coat at higher temperatures. Dog breeds that fit this group include Chihuahuas, toy terrier and miniature pinschers. Dogs that have a higher body fat percentage thrive in cold environments. But, those who are thin such as Whippet or a Greyhound tend to need a coat more. Dogs with thin fur may also require a winter coat.
On the contrary, we have dogs that are larger and have thicker and longer hair very rarely, if ever, require a winter coat. These dogs may include:
Although these are great examples, it is always best to consult your vet when choosing to (or not to) purchase and put a coat on your dog.
So you’ve visited your vet and have decided it’s best to get a coat for your dog. You are now confronted with which type of coat your dog needs. It is important to consider the type of material your dog coat is made from. You may even ask your vet for recommendations on the type of materials that may be compatible with your dog’s fur coat type. When first getting your dog to try on his or her new coat, look for signs of an allergic reaction as you may prevent permanent sickness or even death. These signs and symptoms may include:
It is important to also consider measuring you dog when buying a winter coat. This is that your dog is comfortable rather than constricted in their movements or so the coat isn’t dragged around when walking or running.
It is also best not to get your dog to wear his or her inside the house as your dog may overheat.

Dog shoes: Are they really worth it?
How to find the right dog leash for your precious pooch?
With your dog standing up, measure from the base of the dog’s neck (where the collar sits) and to the base of its tail. It’d also be a great idea to know the size of your dog’s chest.
Although dogs don’t necessarily need a coat, each dog is different and it is important to really observe your dog’s behaviour and needs. As well as being practical, coats also make a fashion statement too. Have a click through our website to have a look at the kind of coats we have up for grabs.
]]>The majority of people believe that dog shoes are purely for looks (I thought that too before doing my research). However surprisingly dog shoes can benefit your dog depending on his or her lifestyle.
If your dog accompanies you on mountain hikes, hunting sessions or even biking trips then you should definitely consider purchasing some dog shoes. These particular activities can prove to be dangerous to your dog, especially because unlike horses or cows, dogs have soft feet. This softness enables him or her to get hurt as a result of the rough terrain and things such as sharp rocks and branches. Your dog’s pads may get cut, wear out and become painful, they can also slip on wet rocks and even get sore after sprinting on hard terrain like concrete or pavement. Your dog will thank you for it.
The older dogs get, the more their paws and back begin to show signs of age. This may include back pain and or discomfort and even sensitivity to that region. Due to this wear and tear, dogs may also be subject to hip issues. Dog shoes can help. This is because they provide extra cushioning and support. As older dogs drag their feet, dog shoes can help them protect their toes.
Walking on hot pavement during the summer months can absolutely hurt your dog. Thankfully with dog shoes, their cute little doggy paws are protected and are kept cool. They’re great even when you want to take a tip as they allow your dog to grip. However, not every dog shoe can be used in the pool, it is important to find waterproof dog shoes with slip protection. This so that that your pool liners don’t tear.
Just as your dog can get hot in the summer months, they can also get very cold in the winter months. Dog shoes can prevent snow buildup between your dog’s paws which can turn to ice and cut the webbing between their toes or even scrape and hurt their pads. Dog shoes can also prevent your dog from slipping and sliding on ice.
Not only do they look stylish, keep your dogs tootsies safe, warm and cool but they can also keep your humble abode nice and clean. If you’re a homeowner with hardwood floors or any other scratchable floor coverings, you’ll know that your dog’s nails can cause a lot of damage. Dog shoes can fix this problem. Dogs actually don’t know the difference between soaking, muddy paws and clean ones. As a result, they can come gleefully bouncing into your home, spreading muck and dirt around your house.
Now I know what you’re gonna say, why can’t I just wipe my dog’s feet after being outside. Well, there’s only so much you can do and usually you miss spots. Waterproof shoes are obviously removable, enabling you to remove them prior to your dog entering the house, preventing damage and or mess.
Although I have given you some reasons why dog shoes may be for you and your precious pooch, it’s ultimately up to you to decide as to whether or not they are for you and your dog. It’s important to ask yourselves the following questions:
If you answered yes to any of these questions, it's probably time to get a pair (or two) of dog booties!
So you’ve decided on the dog shoes. Now it's time to make the most out of them and ask yourself where to wear them. If you’re taking your dog for a car ride or even to a dog park, it isn't necessary to wear them. But if you’re going on a hike or even if its super cold or hot outside, it may be best to wear them. Consider this guide:
1. If your dog will be walking through an area where salt has been spread to melt the ice they should have dog boots on. This salt can get stuck between their paws and be quite painful.
2. If the snow is cold enough that it squeaks when you walk on it.
3. If your dog is trying to keep his paws off the ground as much as possible.
4. If you can’t walk your dog without wearing gloves, earmuffs, and other winter accessories then your dog likely needs winter accessories too.
So it’s time to go shopping. Which pair of dog shoes should I settle on? Keep these factors in mind:
Although we as dog dads and mums have a bad habit of spoiling our furbabies, dog shoes are a must, especially if you live in harsh weather conditions and or your dog has a very active lifestyle. The last piece of advice I will leave you with is: it is very tempting to purchase boots that look nice. But, it is important to buy boots that are practical and do the job.
]]>Before purchasing your leash it is important to take into your dog’s lifestyle and their activities. Many times people have different leashes for different activities. Regardless of the leash you choose it should be well made and contain a secure clasp and comfortable for your to use. It is important to to keep these in mind when buying the right dog leash for you precious pooch:
This article will break down the different types of leash so that you know all the details prior to going out and spending your hard earned money.
This leash is the most common type that can be easily found in pet stores internationally. You usually find that leash lengths vary between 4 to 6 feet and between 3/8ths of an inch to 1 inch wide. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, it’s time to talk about some materials:
Nylon Leashes are the easiest to clean and maintain and are of course the most affordable. When purchasing a Nylon leash it is important to look for thicker ones as those that are thin may potentially burn your hand if your dog decides he wants to act like his in Mario Kart. Although this kind of leash isn’t as flexible or as soft as other leash materials, it's the one people mostly use when going on short walks, trips to the vet, pet store or a doggy day care. You can also get ones that glow in the dark. This is great for those who want to walk their dog after dark.
This type of leash is really easy to use and very durable. The leather leash option is best for regular walks around town but is hard to clean if it gets dirty. Also, I would suggest you find a leather leash that is water resistant. This is so it doesn’t crack or dry out.
This type of leash is made from mountain climbing rope and has become alot more popular over the years due to its comfortability and durability. Characteristically, the leash itself has a little bit of give so your dog doesn’t rip off your arm or hand if it sees a cat.
Hemp leashes are great if you want to be earth-friendly as the plant itself is grown without the use of pesticides and fungicides. Hemp leashes are also great if your dog has sensitive skin or allergies due to its hypo-allergenic properties.
During my short 22 years of life, I have noticed a sharp increase in dog dads and mums using retractable leashes. People tend to opt for retractable leashes as it allows their dog to explore and sniff around. In some cases however, these leashes can cause injury to your dog and yourself. They may also encourage and teach your dog that pulling is acceptable. Prior to writing this article and during my research something I have noticed when visiting pet stores and looking at online reviews is that the leash is extremely bulky and uncomfortable. It is also hard to attach your dog to a tree or a post with these leashes. As touched upon, the freedom that these leash your dog is great but can also be catastrophic and even fatal. Dogs that often have this style of leash may also be socially awkward, being rude to other dogs and people like running up to other dogs and people and jumping on them. Retractable leashes should only be used if your dog is well trained and or if you are in an open space such as a paddock or a beach.
Adjustable leashes are great if you want to tie your dog to a tree or a lamp post, walk 2 dogs at once or even if you need to shorten the leash temporarily. This type of leash has a clasp for a handle. You are able to choose the size of your leash and length of your handle according to where you attach the clasp. It is a good leash to attach to both their collar and their front harness. These leashes are usually used when dog training.
These types of leash are great for dogs who chew on their leash. The metal chain prevents them from ruining the leash and even deters them due to their bad taste and texture. Walking your dog daily with a chain leash may get uncomfortable as they are heavy and uncomfortable to grip mid leash if need be. People also associate chain leashes with tough dogs, causing intimidation amongst fellow dog walkers.
If you have two dogs and don’t want to hold two different leashes, you can easily buy a split leash. This leash allows you to walk 2 precious pups at the same time all whilst holding one handle. When choosing a split leash it is important to buy one that has a tangle-free leash compiler to prevent your pups from getting tangled together. It is important to train both dogs so that they walk without pulling.
This leash is very similar to the standard leash. The only difference is that this one is much shorter with a length of 1 to 2 feet. The leashes are great for inner city living as they keep your dogs nice and close, great for crossing intersections, visits to Dr Dog or when practicing the Heel Cue.
This leash is actually a leash and a collar in one. Instead of there being a clasp at the end there is a metal ring where the handle is looped to create a slip knot around the dog’s neck. Because it only needs looping over your dog’s head, this leash is very convenient and easy to use. They’re so easy that these leashes are used when someone wants to gain control of an un collared dog. The Martingale leash can also be used to make an emergency muzzle or emergency harness.
These types of leash are great for especially active dog dads and dog mums. You can always just attach the leash to your waste and run, giving you and your dog a hands free experience. Umbilical Cord leashes tend to also have a bungee leash and two handles. These bungee leash helps with pulling and absorbs shock when starting or stopping your jog. As noted, these leashes are great for hiking or if your hands are holding something else like pushing a stroller or holding an umbrella. You can also use them to potty train your puppy as you are able to go along your day but still keep a close eye on your dog.
There you have it folks! The different types of leash for you and your dog. Ultimately it is you who decides which leash is the best for you and your dog. Remember, every dog is different and has different needs and wants. It is important to understand these needs and the lifestyle that your dog leads before purchasing a leash.

Why Brush/Groom Your Dog?
Brushing your dog can be a great way to maintain and improve skin and coat health and overall pet care. Brushing spread the healthy minerals and oil already in your dog's hair, around the coat promoting a clean coat. Brushing also removes any knotted or loose hair and slides dirt off the coat. From an emotional perspective, brushing also heightens the bond between both dog and owner and should be a comfortable and pleasant experience for both.
How often should I brush my dog?
This really depends on the dog's coat and needs. Of course the longer the hair the more often your dog will be needing a coat. Dogs with shorter hair may not even need brushing but rather just a good grooming glove to remove any loose hair. However, as a rule of thumb:
If you don’t brush your dog’s hair, this can predispose your dog’s skin to develop infection and irritation. If you notice that your dog has a lot of matting, this may be difficult to remove without specialised clippers.
How To Train Your Dog To Enjoy Grooming
Step 1: It is important to make sure that your dog and puppy feel comfortable by patting and stroking different parts of their body. During this process it is important to praise and reward your dog for staying calm and being comfortable with you handling and patting them. It is important to go slowly and pat the on the chest area first, moving to the shoulder, side and along the back. You should try to make your way to their leg and lift one paw up at a time. Again, continue to praise throughout this process.
Step 2: When your dog feels comfortable with you petting them in certain areas, be sure to slowly introduce a brush. Use a dog brush and make sure to associate it with good thinking. During your brushing be sure to repeat positive affirmations and give them a treat. Do not start brushing them yet but make sure to put the brush next to your dog.
Step 3: Once you dog feels comfortable with the brush being next to them, start gently using the brush on them. Again, make sure you keep repeating positive affirmations and give them treats. Try stroking them a few times around the chest area and then extend to other part of the body. Make sure to move with the hair rather than against it.
Step 4: Once your dog is comfortable you can start stroking your brush in the opposite direction. Be sure to look for any fleas or dirt.
Step 5: If confronted with any matts or knots, carefully trim off rather than trying to get them out with a brush.
Step 6: If your dog seems upset or uncomfortable, stop and start again another day.
Step 7: Observe dogs' faces when brushing. Improve and change your brushing technique if your dog feels uncomfortable.
Step 8: Make sure your grooming sessions with your dog are kept short. This is so your dog does not feel overwhelmed or uncomfortable.
Trimming Hair
In addition to brushing, some hair trimming is needed. Particular areas that may need to regularly be trimmed include:
I would also use a blunt nosed scissors and ask your local Vet for advice when trimming your precious pooch. Never point a scissors towards your dog when trimming and pay particular attention when trimming around the eyes. You may also use food as a way of calming your dog when trimming.
Paws
In order to keep good paw health for your dog it is important to:
Nails
Make sure your dog’s nails are healthy and are at an adequate length:
Enough daily exercise should keep your dog’s nails in good condition and healthy. However, it is important to know that the dog's nails don’t touch the ground when walking and or running and to keep an eye out so the nail does not grow and curve into your dogs skin, causing pain and discomfort.
Ears
It is important to recognise the first signs of ear problems in your dog. These signs include: head shaking, ear discharge, ear scratching, rubbing ears along the floor or furniture, redness/swelling around the ear opening; sensitivity around the head area; a head tilt and an unpleasant odour.
Teeth
To help keep your dog’s teeth and gums healthy. It is important to:

So why bathe your dog?
It is important to bathe your dog as bath time maintains a healthy coat and healthy skin. Giving your dog a bath can also remove loose hair, scale and debris and improve the hair coat’s shine. Some dogs have specific skin conditions in which bathing may be part of their medical treatment plan.
How often should I bathe my precious pooch?
Of course there is no straight forward answer to this question. Dogs should only be bathed when necessary. You can usually tell when your dog is in need of a good ol fashioned soak from their odor or if you can see mud or dirt on their coats. It is important to say that if your dog does smell bad but you can’t find anything dirty on them, you should take them to a vet as this may be a sign of other medical issues such as skin or ear problems. If bathed too frequently, your dog's skin can get dried out and as such require different bathing schedules issued by your veterinarian. Dogs who go swimming dont need to be bathed as often. It is important to supervise your dog whenever they go swimming.
Types of Shampoo
It is important to consult your veterinarian and ask them what shampoo is the best for your dog, according to their coat, skin, size and breed. Human shampoo should not be used on dogs as our furry friends have different pH levels to us humans. If your dog has a healthy coat, you may choose a hypoallergenic shampoo. Alternatively, consult your vet if your dog has any skin problems. You may even buy a hypoallergenic conditioner to apply and rinse out after the shampoo to prevent any dryness. Like other dog products, test it on a small patch of coat before using just in case there may be some irritation.
Where to bathe your dog?
The location of where you intend on bathing your dog is extremely personal and will be different according to an individual's living space and circumstances. However, wherever you choose to bath your dog it is important to keep your products within a reachable distance
Outdoors
For some dog owners, it's best to bathe their dog outside on the ground. Set your hose to a low pressure setting and always test the temperature as your dog does not want an icy cold shower in the middle of winter.
Indoors
If you live in an apartment or a house that doesn’t have a large backyard, bathing your dog in your bathtub might be an optimal solution. When bathing your dog in a bathtub, always supervise your dog when in a bathtub and let water run down the drain so it doesn't fill up. You can use a shower head or even a bucket and ladle to clean your dog. As you would when cleaning your dog outdoors, it is important to test the temperature of the water, making sure it is not too hot or too cold. I would also suggest putting non slip mats in and around the bathtub. Dogs like the feeling of standing on secure surfaces and this also prevents them from slipping or falling, sustaining injury.
Professional Bathing Services
If you need further bathing assistance call a vet as they usually know a good professional bathing service nearby.
How to train your dog to like bath time?
Step 1: Make your dog feel comfortable with being pat and touched. Move around their body slowly, touching them on their legs, ear, shoulders. Repeat affirmations. Lift up your dogs paws one by one. Reward your dog for being on their best behavior.
Step 2: Introduce your dog to bath time by praising them and giving them tasty dog treats. It is important to connect bath time with happy feelings. Introduce your dog to the bathing environment and equipment. Use one item at a time. Reward them for getting into the bath and standing on the non slip mat. You can reward your dog for being able to stand in the bathtub with the water running. Do not rush this process as it can be daunting and overwhelming for your dog and be very difficult in the future for you when trying to bathe them.
Step 3: Before bath time, take your dog on a walk. This will tire your dog out, making them less hyperactive and jumpy. When you get home, allow them to have a short rest and then try bathing them. As your dog is already introduced to your bathing equipment, try to get them to slowly take a bath. If your dog becomes disgruntled or upset, try another day.

The Cavoodle, also known as a Cavapoo, is a crossbreed between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. This delightful blend of two distinct yet complementary breeds results in a dog that's not only incredibly cute but also highly intelligent and affectionate. This crossbreed is particularly cherished for its hypoallergenic coat, which is great news for those with allergies.
Earlier I touched on the fact that they are a great size and don’t shed much hair, but there is so much more to these dog breeds.
So you’ve decided that a Cavoodle is the right dog for you or your family. It’s time to put on that top hat and call yourself Agatha Christie - time for some investigation. All the dog owners should consider the following points before buying your Cavoodle
You’ve ticked all the boxes and everything is above board. It’s time to bring your new fur baby home. What do you do? How do you prepare?.
There are several products to have in your home before your Cavoodle’s arrival. These include food, toys and a sleeping area. There are many dog products on the market, so I suggest speaking to a Vet or your breeder before buying any and bringing your Cavoodle home.
It’s important that your Cavoodle puppy is on the same diet as they were back at the breeders property. Change in diets must be gradual as a sudden change will result in life threatening gastrointestinal upsets. It is important that your new furry friend is fed a premium diet as nutrition is key especially in these early stages of development. It would also be helpful to ask the breeder what food they are feeding you Cavoodle puppy and to ask the reason why they are not feeding them reputable brands and high quality foods. I even suggest finding another breeder if this is their case. It is important to find the right dog bowl for your Cavoodle. It is important that your Cavoodle eats and drinks from a non-tip bowl and doesn’t eat from the regular bowls that you or your household members eat from. This is because the sound and shape of your bowl excite your Cavoodle. Make sure your Cavoodle gets fresh clean water daily. Be sure to not fill the bowl so that your Cavoodle may drown.
Your Cavoodle must sleep in a dog bed or a crate, particularly as a puppy. Sharing a bed with you can be dangerous as you may roll over during the night, suffocating them. Take particular care in where you put your dog bed as the area must be warm and safe. Make sure your new puppy feels comfortable in this part of the house or apartment. It’s also important that they are put in a place where they are not going to be distrubed when they sleep. If you cannot supervise your new puppy within the first few days (It’s better if you can), section off her area and make the area around the bed a play pen. It’s always ideal to create a smaller area where your puppy feels comfortable rather than the entire house as this freedom may result in injury.
When buying dog toys for your Cavoodle, it is important to check the size recommendation on the packet. WIth larger dogs, smaller toys can be swallowed, choking them. Although this may be rarer in smaller dogs it's always best to exercise caution and judgement. You can also ask the seller or breeder which toys they use as not only will it be the right size for your dog but your dog will feel more comfortable playing with its toys.
If you're on the hunt for a furry friend that embodies both charm and companionship, look no further than Cavoodle puppies. These adorable mixed-breed dogs have gained significant popularity, and in Melbourne, Australia, finding Cavoodle puppies for sale is an exciting endeavor for dog lovers.
Don’t rush to give your puppy a bath, give them a bath a few days after getting home from the breeders or sellers property. Be sure to purchase Cavoodle shampoo and use warm water to make your puppy’s first bath experience a pleasant one. Prevent your dog's head from going under water by keeping the bath water low. You can even get a friend or loved one to hold their head above water until they get used to it. When it comes to brushing, get your dog in a relaxed state such as lying in your lap. Then, with a very soft brush, brush your Cavoodle for under 5 minutes in intervals. This will teach your Cavoodle to associate the brush with being pat.
Cavoodles are often likened to their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel parent due to the blend of characteristics they inherit. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is renowned for its affectionate and gentle demeanor. It's a breed that craves companionship and is skilled at forming strong connections with its human family members. This trait is seamlessly integrated into the Cavoodle's personality, making them exceptional companions that thrive on human interaction and affection.
There you have it, the process of buying and bringing a Cavoodle home. It is an exciting time for you and your loved ones. Dogs can bring so much joy and happiness to our lives and it is always important to be patient and if needed, seek professional puppy training if any further help is needed. If you’re Cavoodle feels uncomfortable at home, In home training may be the best route to take.
